Reducing upload and broadcast times for ultra large data files on USB site Autohandlers.

Having received complaints about the lengthy upload time and broadcast time for large data files, BPM have discovered that the ports that the site USB cables are connected to can makes a big difference in process speed.

Refer to the attachment for the recommended placement of the USB site cables at the back of the autohandler computer.

What BPM found, especially on the 3x00 system, is that having all four sites connected to one PCI USB card is the worst possible configuration.

From an actual test using a 32 GB eMMC device with a 29 GB data file, we reduced the upload/broadcast time from 5457 s. down to 1885 s. with the configuration as in the example (new style computer)

Old Style computers use and IDE Galil 1040 board. New style computers use an ethernet Galil 4040 controller.

For algorithms that use pre-broadcast, the data file is transferred to each site at the same time at the start of the job.

For all other algos, the data file is transferred to the master site, and after successful programming, the data file is transferred to the remaining sites.

For 4x00 systems, configure as close as possible to the diagrams, but spread the sites among the three PCI USB cards.

Note: that for programming micros and small memory devices (less than 1 Gig) the existing configuration is OK.

BPM recommend that this configuration change be implemented only when there is an issue with upload time.
